Since October 2025, Roku has offered more than 40 free, ad-supported live channels in the UK through its Live TV Zone and The Roku Channel. They're mostly sport, reality and classic entertainment (think PGA Tour, MLB, Deal or No Deal and Fear Factor), and Roku later added several channels from ITV Studios, including The Graham Norton Show and Hell's Kitchen. No subscription or sign-up is needed.
One limitation to know: on Roku, the Live TV Zone doesn't pull in BBC iPlayer, ITVX or Channel 4. On a Fire TV Stick, Amazon has offered a single live guide combining UK broadcaster channels since early 2025. On Roku you open each broadcaster's app separately, which is easy enough, but less seamless.
Sport on Roku: Sky Sports, TNT Sports and DAZN
Sky Sports comes to Roku through NOW, TNT Sports through HBO Max, and boxing through DAZN.

Live TV on Roku not working? Quick fixes

- App won't open or freezes: restart the Roku (Settings › System › Power › System restart), then check for software updates. If that fails, remove the app from the home screen and add it again from the Channel Store.
- Buffering during live sport: live streams are more sensitive than on-demand video. Move the router closer, switch to the 5 GHz band, or use a wired connection on Roku models with an Ethernet port.
- BBC iPlayer asks about a TV licence: that's normal. You need a TV licence to watch live TV on any device, and to use iPlayer at all.
- Picture looks soft on a 4K TV: check Settings › Display type is set to 4K, and that your plan includes 4K where the app charges extra for it.
- An app isn't in the Channel Store: availability varies by Roku model and region. Older Roku models sometimes lose support for newer apps.
